Victor’s Point Of View
Amy was a natural and exceptional lawyer and businesswoman, but she was also pregnant, hormonal, and with fluctuating anxiety levels that worried me. I loved her free spirit and willingness to roll up both sleeves to immerse herself in work-related problems, but I knew my wife was placing herself at risk every time a crisis emerged.
The morning after Dohjon Leong arranged my wife’s abduction, I brought breakfast to our room. I helped Diana in the kitchen for an hour while Amy slept, sliding trays in and out of the oven, preparing eggs and herbs for omelets, and finishing off Bircher Meusli with sliced strawberries and blueberries.
When 7:30 a.m. came, I set out two trays, which I insisted on carrying upstairs because I wanted to do more for my pregnant sweetheart than pass on instructions to deliver food.
Having made two trips between our bedroom and kitchen, I set breakfast on the small table beside our window and gently woke Amy, spooning, cuddling, and kissing her. She purred, then giggled and kissed me back, rolling over to face me.
“I smell freshly baked pastries and coffee, Victor.”
“Is our baby awake, and are you both hungry?”
“Our baby is always hungry, sweetheart.”
“We have pastries, Bircher, fresh fruit, an omelet, and toast to share.”
“Do you have Marmite for the toast, honey?”
