The flickering sun splashed warmly across my face through poorly drawn curtains. I felt happy that I woke to a bright morning, more so because Bree was close by. As I faced away from her, I felt my lover’s body heat radiating across our bed, even though we had rolled apart during the night, each hunting for a cold spot.
At times, our lovemaking seemed frantic as I embraced a new lesbian-loving relationship with Bree while dulling a long-term, hard-wired connection to my children’s father. I wasn’t in love with Justin, but I wasn’t completely free of it either.
My lover stroked a fingernail gently down my spine, electrifying me while giggling noisily at her mischief, so I rolled and stared at her eyes, which were wide open, sparkling brightly, and full of fun. Bree smiled at me and gently touched the tip of my nose with a finger.
“I was reading again this morning while you slept, Em. You purr so beautifully when you are at peace.”
“I felt so comfortable knowing you were close.”
“How are you, sweetheart?”
“I feel wonderful, but with a twinge of sadness.”
“Sadness, why?”
“I don’t think Justin will get what he wants from Rachel.”
“And you still care about him… why?”
“Don’t you care, Bree? He is your brother, after all.”
